Do you keep the energy cards after you attack on the defending pokemon?

I mean, After you attack the defending pokemon , would you keep the energy cards on the active pokemon. This has been a strife with my sister so speed you be appreciated.

Unless the attack tells you to discard an energy card, you can keep the energy on the pokemon. The only times you wouldn't would be: If the attack tells you to, if your pokemon faints, or retreat costs. If you had to discard an energy card every time you attacked, your deck would have to run 50% energy cards.
