Why do old Pokemon Cards cost so much?

You see, I look on Ebay sometimes, and I wanted to add some Pokemon Cards to my collection. I looked and saw some cards going for MANY dollars, when those cards aren't even rare or special. I would just like to know, why people do that, I don't know if its a rip off or not.

Why do old Pokemon Cards cost so much?
the key to any collectible is that there is a greater demand today than there was when it first came out

think: whats worth more, a velvet underground vinyl or sgt peppers? common sense would tell you sgt peppers since it is far more popular, but it was popular then too. while worth something because its out of print, its not worth nearly as much as a vu lp because the velvets wern't popular when they came out, so there arn't alot of vinyls on the market even though alot of people now realize they were pure gold

so it goes with pokemon, i guese
Reply:Supply and demand.....they are no longer being printed and even if they were no one wants copies, only the original.
Reply:The answer proboly is because the cards are not being made anymore and many people are trying to complete their collections. The prices will go up, but then soon later go down as the years go by like 10 years maybe.
Reply:limited availability

  1. Don't buy through ebay. I saw people selling 50 cent cards for over $2, and one guy trying to sell a $5 card for $50. No joke.
