What are some good pokemon cards?

I wanted to buy my son some pokemon cards good ones so he can battle with his friends and not always lose so could you give me a few names of pokemon cards please. Thanks.

What are some good pokemon cards?
Get him a PSP not Pokemon cards. I don't think kids even play with Pokemon anymore.
Reply:you can't tell untill you by the pack
Reply:Well the new diamond and pearl series has just come out and those have the newest and best pokemon in my opinion. If you'r talking about single cards that you might or might not find in card shops are basic pokemon that are good like palkia, scyther, hitmonchan, and electabuzz. You might want to ask him if he likes the old or new cards because I was going to say buy him the diamond and pearl cards, power keepers series, hidden legends, or crystal guardians packs. If he likes the old cards then you can't really find those at too many places except ebay or at special card shops. Normally if it is shiny or holographic then it's pretty good. If he does like old cards get him charizard, blastoise, or venasaur. If he likes new cards I would just buy him some packs. If you think he is a beginner then buy him a deck not packs because only decks give a lot of energy. I would ask him what he wants and buy him that probably though. Anyway, hope this helps.
Reply:Scyther's Good, no grass types. Water's very good. I only have cards from the original red/blue/yellow versions though.
Reply:Aww... What a nice parent you are! I wish my parents were like that.

Anyhow, If you're really planning to help your child out, I suggest you buy him/her a full deck and not just one card. If he/she already has one (I assume this is the case...) then try to know what type of deck is your child using. After knowing this, here are my recommendations:

Fire Type: Charizard (Stage 2 evolution. In order to be played in the game, must have Basic stage Charmander and Stage 1 Charmeleon.) or Thyplosion (Stage 2. evolution. In order to be played in the game, must have Basic stage Cyndaquil and Stage 1 Quilava.)

Water Type: Rocket's Articuno EX (May cost a little bit high but worth it for a duel game. Best used for decks that are on "rush offense" - meaning a deck that aims to finsh the game quickly.)

Electric Type: Lt. Surge's Magneton (Stage 1 evolution. In order to play this card, must have Basic Stage Lt. Surge's Magnemite.)

Grass Type: Sceptile EX - Highly Recommended! I know a friend whom I cannot beat once he brings this one card on play. (This is for a defense style of deck that attacks later in a duel. Stage 2 Evolution. In order to play this card, must have Stage 1 Grovyle and Basic Stage Treecko.)

Psychic Type: Deoxys (You might be pushed to bring out the money here 'cause this card is kinda' expensive. But really, and I mean really, worth it. You might want to buy two different kinds of this card %26lt;there are four in all%26gt; to be fully effective in battle.)

Well, this is all I know. Plus another Trainer card, called Pokemon Breeder, might really be able to help your kid. I know this because I play Pokemon too :). I hope I have helped you! :)
